The Mountains

Topic Progress:

One of Ras Al Khaimah’s biggest draws is the incredible mountain range located right next to the city. This is home to the UAE’s tallest mountain, Jebel Jais.

At 1,934 metres above sea level, Jebel Jais offers stunning views and cool mountain air. The mountain has an extremely good road leading to its peak, with several viewing spots along the way. It’s also a hub for mountain biking, climbing, hiking and off-roading.

The World’s Longest Zipline – Jebel Jais Flight certified by Guinness World Records, with a 2.83km span of zip wire, equivalent to 28 soccer pitches. This bucket list experience will take you for a ride you won’t forget. Starting at the highest point of the UAE (1,680mts above the sea level) and after flying above the magnificent Jebel Jais mountains in Ras al Khaimah at an average speed of 120kph, you will land in our top of the line suspended platform. Oh yeah, you will be floating in the air. Trust us! This will be the closest sensation to fly like a falcon. Visit the Jebel Jais Flight and experience this rush of adrenaline. We won’t blame you if your heart skips a beat before pushing off!

A thrilling attraction unique to RAK is the Via Ferrata – a climbing, hiking and ziplining route along a sheer cliff face at the base of Jebel Jais. Meaning ‘iron way’, climbers are clipped onto a cable for the entire course as they traverse the mountainside. The route reaches a dizzying height of 120 metres, and includes 3 ziplines – the last of which is 300 metres long!

Located in the south of Ras Al Khaimah, Wadi Showka is a popular spot for mountain biking, and bikes are available to rent from Showka Bicycles. Several single track trails range from 15km to 50km, with superb terrain that weaves through the rocky hills.

More epic mountain routes to explore include Wadi Bih and Wadi Asimah, Shamal, Khatt Springs and Digdagga.

The challenging landscape of Ras Al Khaimah’s mountains makes them popular for organised fitness and adventure events, such as the Urban-Ultra Hajar 50 & 100 and the Wadi Ghalilah Vertical Run.

The mountains also provide plenty of wonderful camping locations that are an otherworldly escape from city life, particularly at sunset and sunrise.
